Monteverde Cloud Forest Tour
3 days / 2 nights
Monteverde lies in a land of misty mountains and enchanted cloud forests where majestically decorated trees teeming with orchids, ferns, vines and thick mosses tower over translucent streams that tumble along to plummeting waterfalls. A three day stay here will give you a chance to hike through the seven trails that cross the forest reserve, allowing you to observe the spectacular flora and fauna that has made this sanctuary a haven for tourists and scientists alike. To preserve the peaceful beauty and serenity of the forest, no more than 120 visitors are allowed on the trails at any given time.
This 26,000-acre reserve is home to more than 100 species of mammals, 120 species of reptiles and amphibians and 2,500 species of plants, including 420 different kinds of orchids. A walk through this magical forest rewards visitors with an impressive diversity of resplendent plant life and frequent opportunities to capture stunning glimpses of wildlife that include ocelots, jaguars, Bare-necked Umbrella birds and the elusive but dazzling Quetzal. A visit to the Monteverde Butterfly Garden is a perfect way to end your day and will allow you the chance to marvel at hundreds of multicolored winged creatures in a natural habitat.

Optional Tours in Monteverde:
The Original Canopy Tour:
Our guide will lead you on a short hike through a private cloud forest reserve to the start of The Original Canopy Tour. Here you will ascend a ladder up to the first platform, situated about eight meters above the ground and linked to the trees by a series of cables. A thrilling ride awaits you as you glide along the treetops on horizontal traverse lines that take you from platform to platform before rappelling down to the forest floor. A 50 meter hike will then take you to an enormous Strangler Fig tree where you will scale a rope ladder up the inside of its hollow trunk to a platform located 22 meters above the ground. After traversing an eight-meter-long walkway you will continue from platform to platform, with spectacular views of the surrounding rainforest, before a final rappel returns you to the forest floor.
Monteverde SkyWalk:
This is a simple and exciting new way to safely explore the remarkable rainforest canopy. Walk through a unique system of seven suspension bridges that zigzag through deep canyons at the level of the treetops. The longest of these bridges is about 200 meters (656 feet) in length.
Monteverde Sky Trek:
A tour to the Monteverde Cloud Forest is not complete without a visit to the Sky Trek. The focal point of this system is the three suspended platforms set in the midst of tree branches. Zip lines attached from one platform to another allow you to slide between them with the use of special equipment. A suspended bridge, 90 meters (300 feet) long and 22 meters (66 feet) high, provides an extraordinary view of the interior forest. An observation platform above the canopy provides visitors with a 360-degree panoramic view of the lowlands of Guanacaste, San Carlos and Puntarenas.
