Tortuguero Jungle Canals

The Tortuguero Canals are a network of navigable natural and man-made lakes and canals used both for basic transportation and jungle exploration tours. A trip through these waterways to Tortuguero National Park will provide visitors with magnificent scenery and an opportunity to observe iguanas, monkeys, crocodiles and numerous multi-colored birds in their natural habitat.
Explore these hauntingly beautiful jungle canals on an exotic boat ride to Pachira Lodge, located on an isolated sandbar between the Tortuguero Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. After a warm welcome by the Pachira Lodge staff, you’ll have a chance to hike the trails around the lodge or perhaps find a private nook to relax in. The humid tropical jungle covers an area of more than 47,000 acres and shelters a great variety of wildlife, including the brightly painted poison dart frogs.
Take a leisurely stroll along a sun-swept beach and marvel at its many hidden wonders. Then proceed inland over marked footpaths to admire exceptional flora and fauna including orchids, monkeys, birds, crocodiles and toucans in their natural habitat, you may even catch a glimpse of vibrantly colored macaws, or howler monkeys playfully swinging from tree to tree. With nearly 14 miles of coastline, Tortuguero National Park is one of the most important nesting sites of four varieties of marine turtles, including the massive Green Turtle, which emerges from the ocean to lay its eggs from July through September in one of nature’s most awesome spectacles.
